Felix Lange's Parafree Wheelchair Concept

Felix Lange's Parafree Wheelchair Concept is designed for users with a great balance and an active lifestyle. It is meant to be a "sport core-body training machine" for paraplegics with the outstanding benefit of comfort in everyday use. Its design language and structure support active users in their self-confidence and independence, hopefully inspiring hope and easing frustration. This concept wheelchair compels the paralyzed user to keep balance permanently.  More info and images after the jump.

The unique and minimalist frame structure of this wheelchair is made of low-cost hydroformed industrial steel and aluminum. Its lightweight structure models and retains its necessary rigidity by adapting geometries known from bicycles. The flexible Paracore base-element under an innovative customized seat-shell leads to a stable sitting experience.

The Paracore-Element of Parafree wheelchair allows a wider range of motion in comparison to more conventional designs. Different seat designs allow for the foam element to be fitted with options like a companion-handlebar, optional back lean or luggage rack. One of the design objectives of the Parafree Wheelchair Concept is to make a wheelchair that feels less like a medical device and more of a minimalist streamlined product.
